Water for Home & Office

TAP OR BOTTLED WATER?

The total amount of water in a man of average weight (70 kilograms) is approximately 40 litres, averaging 60 percent of his total body weight. In a newborn infant, this may be as high as 75 percent of the body weight, but it progressively decreases from birth to old age. Most of the decrease occurring during the first 10 years of life. Also, obesity decreases the percentage of water in the body, sometimes to as low as 45 percent". (Medical Pshycology, Guyton, Arthur C, 1991.)

What is wiser: Make a high quality drinking water and flush it in toilet or suffer under plastic supporting bottle water industry (three out of four plastic bottles are still not recycled since natural decaying or life of plastic is hundreds of years almost like used nuclear fuel). At the same time our troubles with carbon footprint are not getting smaller in future (i.e. about 4,000 tons of CO2 are emitted during the transportation of bottled water from France, Italy, and Fiji to the U.S.).

A few years back while I was digging in my mum’s garden I found a plastic bag and plastic bottles. It was so well preserved that even the colours were clearly visible on it. To me and my generation the company name written on it didn’t even ring a bell at all but the elderlies had a word or two to say about it!

Few facts from US:
1. In 2009 U.S. Consumers purchase 8.45 billion gallons of bottle water.
2. Americans spent 10.6 billion dollars on bottled water3. That bottled water on average cost 1000 times the cost of tapwater
4. Almost half of the bottle water comes from municipal tap water supplies
5. Bottle water production in the US used the energy equivalent of32 and 54 million barrels of oil to produce an transport plastic water bottles(2007) enough to fuel 1.5 million cars for a year.
6. That 75% of the empty bottles wind up in landfills instead of being recycle.
7. Tap water in the US is subject to more stringent federal safety regulations than bottle water.
8. A 2008 independent test on 10 different brands of bottled water found 38 contaminants.

Most of the public water utilities produce same water quality for all domestic use. If we split the water supply system at the point of use we need to start to educate the public about taps with and without monsters in it. It’s annoying to know about water, every time I flush the toilet at least one thought about water quality or it’s treatment crosses my mind!

A Funny Doctor's prescription About The Water:

After the exam a doctor explained his prescription:
  • Take green pill with a glass of water after getting up.
  • Take blue pill with glass of water after lunch.
  • Just before bed take red pill with another glass of water.
Doctor just what's wrong with me?
  • You're not getting enough water.
